Hardcore Memorial

Remember every fallen Hardcore character, with where and how they died, guild totals, and a Memorial block for your website.

On Hardcore, every death is a story. The Hardcore Memorial gives your guild a place to tell them: each fallen character's name, class, level, the zone that got them and what happened. The guild sees the totals, and you can put the memorial on your website for everyone to pay their respects (or laugh, depending on what happened).

The Hardcore Memorial is for World of Warcraft: Forever guilds.

Install it

An owner or admin opens the Marketplace, goes to Add-ons, and clicks Install on Hardcore Memorial. Memorial then appears under Operations in the sidebar. See add-ons.

Add the fallen

  1. Open Memorial.
  2. Under ADD THE FALLEN, fill in:
    • Character: the name (required, up to 40 characters).
    • Class: pick a suggestion or type one (up to 30 characters).
    • Level: 1 to 100.
    • Zone: where it happened, like "Stranglethorn Vale" (up to 60 characters).
    • What happened: the cause, like "Pulled the whole camp" (up to 200 characters).
    • Fell on: the date, today unless you change it. It can't be in the future.
  3. Click Add.

Each entry shows as a headstone with the level, class, zone, cause, date and who played them.

Who can change what

Members add their own characters, and can edit or remove their own entries with the pencil and trash icons.

Officers (owners, admins and moderators) can add, edit and remove any entry. They also get a Played by menu to record a character for another member, or choose No one now for someone who's left. If a member leaves the guild, their characters stay on the memorial.

The totals

The top of the page shows FALLEN, AVERAGE LEVEL, HIGHEST LEVEL LOST and DEADLIEST ZONE. That last one tends to start conversations.

Put it on your website

  1. Open a page in the website builder.
  2. Add the Memorial block from the Guild widgets group.
  3. Pick a Layout (Cards or List), turn Show totals on or off, and set how many characters to show (up to 200).
  4. Decide on Show who played each character. Members' usernames only become public if you turn it on.
  5. Publish the page.

The block stays empty until a page with it is published, and it disappears if you remove the add-on. See page blocks.

Example: a memorial wall

Your Hardcore guild wants a "Hall of the Fallen" page.

  1. You install the Hardcore Memorial and ask everyone to add their past deaths, with the real dates.
  2. You create a page called "Hall of the Fallen", add a heading and a Memorial block with Cards and Show totals on, and publish it.
  3. You add the page to your site's menu. From then on, whenever someone dies, they add the entry and the wall updates by itself.

Tips and tricks

  • Encourage honest causes. "Thought I could make it to the boat" is why people read the memorial.
  • Backdate past deaths with Fell on, so the memorial reads as a real history, not one busy evening.
  • Leave Show who played each character off if your members would rather stay anonymous in public; the guild still sees it in the dashboard.
  • Officers can tidy up typos or duplicate entries, so ask members to just add first and fix later.
  • Put the Memorial block on your recruiting page. Nothing says "we're a real Hardcore guild" like a wall of headstones.
